2006 – Not the best season ever!

This was Adam’s third season at Eastbourne, which proved to be not one of his best, due More to bad luck than poor riding! His Injury in April meant that he missed 11 Elite League Matches – during which time the Eagles lost 7 of them. The time without Adam was covered by Rider Replacement – but the fans would have preferred to have Adam riding!

MARCH/APRIL
Adam only rode in 6 Elite League matches in March and April before he suffered a broken pelvis in Poland. He scored paid 64 points from 28 rides, getting double figures in four of them, including paid 13 points from 5 rides at Oxford, and paid nine in the other two.

This gave Adam an average of 2.29 points per heat. His CMA was 8.83 (2005 – 6.55).

MAY
May was a bleak month for Adam (and the fans), as he was unable to ride. His CMA remained at 8.83 (2005 – 6.93).

JUNE
Adam was pleased to be back in the saddle in June, probably even more than the fans! He eagerness to be back in the “saddle” showed in his riding. He only competed in 7 matches, which included a 5-heat win maximum against Arena at Arlington, and he went on to score paid double figures in another three, on his way to a total of 66 points from 33 rides. His average for the month was 2.00 points per heat. His CMA was 8.39 (2005 – 6.52).

JULY

Adam’s first match in July saw him gaining his second 5-heat win maximum, this time against Wolverhampton. Even though he was unable to compete in three of the Eagles’ fixtures through another injury, he still maintained a very respectable average by scoring 28 points from his 12 heats, reaching double figures in three of the four matches. At the end of July his average was 2.33 points per heat. His CMA was 8.31 (2005 – 6.90).

AUGUST
August wasn’t the best month for Adam by his standards. This was reflected in the drop in his CMA from July. In the 8 matches in which Adam participated, he scored 58 points in 34 heats – his best score was 12+1 from 5 against Arena. At the end of the month his average was 1.71 points per heat. His CMA was 7.92 (2005 – 6.90).

SEPTEMBER
Adam only had 7 matches this month and scored 56 points from 31 rides – reaching double figures on three occasions, his best result was 11+1 from 6 rides against Ipswich.
At the end of the month his average was 1.81 points per heat. His CMA was 7.82 (2005 – 7.01).

OCTOBER
This month saw the semi-finals and final of the Craven Shield – an apt name one might say – which proved to be one of the closest contests in the three-team event. The Eagles did not win the Shield, but they did give the winners, Poole, and Coventry a good run for their money! In Adam’s 20 heats, he scored 40 points At the end of the month his average was 2.00 points per heat. His CMA was 7.76 (2005 – 7.01).

ADAM ABROAD
POLAND: Adam had his first – and probably his last – venture into the Polish League when he joined Lublin. While his first meeting promised much (he scored 14 points from 5 rides), everything seemed to go down hill from there onwards. He came off his bike in the second meeting, breaking his pelvis, which put him out of action for two month! As soon as he returned to Poland, he was again involved in a pile up and, as a result, did not to return to Polish speedway for the remainder of the season.

SWEDEN: Adam fared better here, but because of the injuries, he only rode in 7 matches for Vargarna, scoring 50 points from 33 heats – in his last two matches he scored 25 points from 12 heats, showing that he was almost fully recovered from his previous set-backs. His overall average was 1.52 points per heat (2005 – 73 heats, 130 points = 1.78 points per heat).

SUMMING UP
2006 wasn’t a good season for Adam, after two setbacks he kept going to finish the year as Eastbourne’s second highest points scorer, not far behind Nicki Pedersen! In the Elite League, he won heats at 10 of the 11 tracks, improving his winning times at four of them, and he is only the second rider this season to win in less than 56 seconds at Arlington – his time of 55.9 seconds was only 0.8 of a second outside Tony Rickardsson’s track record and 0.3 of a second slower than David Norris fastest time.

His CMA, however, did not reflect his overall performance, finishing with 7.76 compared with 7.01 in 2005. Adam was finished 27th in the final CMA table of over 100 riders. The fans at Eastbourne continue to hold Adam in high esteem, and his 3-year record as an Eagle shows why. The fans are also delighted to know that Adam will be back for the 2007 season at Arlington.

His overall performance for the Eagles for the year was: 116 heats and 225 points = 1.94 points per heat (2005: 1.97).
